Four Weeks left to Qualify your club’s U10/U12 Junior Team for mini Rogers Cup!

Make sure your club doesn’t miss the opportunity to qualify a U10/U12 team to the mini Rogers Cup finals. Many clubs across the province have held or are scheduling mini Rogers Cup events at their club with the aim of fielding a team in this exciting free event. The qualifying teams, consisting of 2 U10 and 2 U12 kids in recreational level boys and girls divisions, will represent their club at the regional final tournament at Mayfair Parkway in Markham on July 16 and 17. Last year’s event had over 60 competitors and we expect more this time around. This year, as an added bonus, we will play the final round on July 20 at a specially constructed tennis court at Nathan Philips Square at City Hall in Toronto! The champions and finalists will also be invited to the Rogers Cup on the Wednesday July 27 Day session and will be recognized, with the winners participating in a tennis demo right on Centre Court! Speaking of prizes, every tournament participant will be given a mini Rogers Cup headband, to be given out at their club event! Sportsnet will visit selected clubs during the lead up events and cover the awards presentation! Click here to see a Sportsnet video from last year’s final.

We have put together a tournament kit to make it easy for your club to get involved and have supplied a downloadable poster to print out and put up at your club. Clubs can run the event as part of their club championships or summer camps… or just run a simple one day qualifying event for the kids! It’s something they won’t forget! Let us know right away if you’d like to involve your club and kids in this great, free event. For rules and regulations or to learn how to qualify a team, click here. If you would like more information, feel free to contact Peter Malcomson at: pmalcomson@tennisontario.com. Entries are limited and the deadline to run an event at your club is July 10!

Westmount "Tradition" Raises Money for Hosptal Foundation

On June 10, 11, and 12 The Westmount Golf and Country Club in Kitchener, Ontario hosted the 2nd Annual Westmount “Tradition” Charity Tennis Tournament.  Over 40 teams competed over the weekend in support of the Grand River Hospital Foundation.  Players were rewarded with perfect weather, a pro exhibition, Wimbledon party, and three days of great tennis on Westmount’s beautiful championship clay courts.

“It’s the people that have come to support a good cause and each other that have made this event so special.  It’s a chance for tennis to do some good.  We’ve accomplished that this weekend.  I’m satisfied that with the help of our organizing committee and many volunteers, we’ve executed a 5 star event, one that will remain a staple on each participant’s calendar in years to come.

Thank you to all our sponsors, especially our title sponsor: Brad Davidson Wealth Management.  "It would not have happened without Brad's support” said Dave Mitchell, Tournament Director.

This year’s tournament saw a doubling in participation and contribution to the charity, estimated to be $50,000.  Look for next year’s tournament on the OTA calendar and come be a part of Westmount’s “Tradition”.
